The Star Festival

The star festival came from China to Japan.

It is held in August in TAKAOKA.

This is a strange custom because it is held in July in the other prefectures.

The reason why this festival is held in August in TAKAOKA is that it is held in accordance with the lunar calendar.

In the star festival of Takaoka one writes one's wish on an oblong card, supposed to represent the river.

This is based on the tradition that the wish written on an oblong card arrives at the heavens through a river.
